You do not need a referral to see a physiotherapist. Physios are primary contact practitioners, which means you can book directly, be assessed and start treatment the same week.
When a referral does matter
A referral is only needed when someone else is paying for the treatment. That covers four situations we see most often.
- DVA Gold or White Card. Your GP completes a D904 referral. We track it, report back and manage renewals so treatment does not lapse.
- Medicare Chronic Disease Management plan. Your GP can refer you for up to five subsidised allied health sessions a year if you have a long term condition.
- WorkCover. Treatment can start while your claim is being assessed. Bring your claim number if you have one.
- NDIS. No referral needed, but we do need your plan details or your support coordinator's contact.
What happens if I book without one
Exactly the same appointment. A 45 minute first session, a written plan, and a clear picture of what progress looks like. If it turns out you are eligible for funded treatment, we will tell you and help you get the paperwork sorted rather than let you pay privately.
Private health
If you have extras cover, physiotherapy, exercise physiology and dietetics are usually claimable on the spot. Bring your card and we will process the rebate at reception.
Still not sure? Call us on 1300 125 543 and reception will tell you in two minutes which option fits.
